Who we are:

Zilch is a payment tech company on a mission to create the most empowering way to pay for anything, anywhere. Combining the best of debit, credit and savings, we give our customers the option to earn instant cashback or spread the cost of pricier purchases, completely interest free and with no late fees. Pretty great, right?

We’ve already done big things since launching in the UK in 2020. In our first 24 months, we gained a huge 3 million customers. And just 14 months into our journey, we earned double-unicorn status – the fastest company in Europe to do so *bragging-not-bragging*.

There are some exciting projects coming up and we’ve got big growth plans. Want to join us?

About the role:

As a Senior Technical Product Manager at Zilch, you will own the product strategy and delivery for our Acquirer team, which sits at the core of how Zilch processes money.

This team is responsible for:

  • Processing debit and credit card transactions end-to-end with our acquiring partners
  • Operating and evolving our Pay by Bank / Open Banking payment capabilities
  • Building and maintaining our payment infrastructure that directly impacts authorisation rates, cost of acceptance, customer experience, and regulatory compliance

This is a technical product role. You will work day-to-day with backend engineers, data analysts, acquirers, and card schemes to design, prioritise, and ship changes to our payment flows. You will be expected to understand how transactions move through the payments ecosystem and to confidently engage in detailed technical and commercial discussions.

Day-to-day Responsibilities:

Owning the Acquirer product area

  • Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Zilch’s Acquirer team
  • Be accountable for payment performance outcomes, including reliability, authorisationrates, latency, cost, and scalability
  • Translate company-level goals and KPIs into clear product priorities for the team

Payments & ecosystem expertise

  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of how card and bank payments are processed at Zilch, including:
    • Authorisation, clearing, settlement, and reconciliation flows
    • The roles of issuers, acquirers, card schemes, and banks
    • Scheme rules, mandates, and network behaviour

Own product decisions including provider capabilities, payment flows, and user experience Implications

Partner & vendor management

  • Act as the primary point of contact with external payment partners
  • Build and manage joint roadmaps with third-party vendors
  • Lead delivery of strategic initiatives that require coordination across teams

Delivery & execution

  • Ensure the team is always working on the highest-value initiatives, informed by data, operational insight, and business impact
  • Own backlog prioritisation, refinement, and product discovery for the Acquirer team
  • Define and track clear KPIs for payment performance and platform health
  • Ensure shipped changes deliver measurable value and do not compromise system stability or Compliance

We’re looking for:

  • 5+ years’ experience in Product Management, with significant experience in payments
  • Proven experience working on cards, acquiring, or payment Infrastructure products
  • Strong understanding of card scheme operations, acquiring and issuing flows and/or open banking / Pay by Bank payments
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting technical documentation, APIs, and payment specs
  • Able to reason with engineers about complex payment flows and failure modes without needing to write code
  • Confident working closely with engineers and data analysts in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable interacting with third-party vendors and financial institutions
  • Data-driven and outcome-focused, with strong product judgement
  • Able to influence stakeholders and senior leaders through clarity of thinking rather than authority
  • Takes true ownership of outcomes, not just delivery
  • Customer-focused, but pragmatic about regulatory, risk, and technical constraints
  • Ruthless about prioritisation, especially in highly complex systems
  • Clear, concise communicator who builds trust across technical and non-technical audiences

Bonus Skills:

  • (Ideally) have worked with some international or a remote/distributed team
  • Experience working on both greenfield and existing products
  • Scale-up experience – as it can feel like a rollercoaster at times
